By the light of the silvery moon: our nearest neighbour in pictures

Moon during total Lunar Eclipse, 2007

The moon is our nearest celestial neighbour, and the subject of so many myths and legends. When out in a remote location far from the interference of light pollution, the light of a full moon can be bright enough to light up a walking trail or a outdoor meal, and at the same time dim the brilliance of the millions of stars that fill the sky.

One of my most memorable sights was seeing the Grand Canyon bathed only in moonlight; the whole landscape illuminated in an eerie monochrome. I didn’t have my camera to hand that evening, so it is a sad omission from my motley selection of moon photos. My pictures are constrained not only by my photographic skills but by my stubborn refusal to buy a decent camera. Here however are a selection of my moon photos.
