Christmas in New York

Having missed out on the thrill of seeing Jessica Simpson switch on the lights, we soaked up the atmosphere and indulged in walking the streets of Midtown and Central Park on December 25th. The traffic was mercifully absent as we strolled with the many families who were taking the day off (yes, America is back at work on the 26th).

Ok, so this might not be the most exciting destination at first glance. Living in NYC for a year in 2003-04, we made the most of spending the festive period in the city where all self-respecting Christmas movies are based.

Ice skating in the Rockefeller Center is a must-do, along with crunching through the snow and seeing the steam rise from the manholes around the city streets.

We wondered why we were paying a king’s ransom for a high floor appartment with great views until New Year’s Eve when a bout of sickness kept us indoors rather than braving the cold in Times Square. The luxury of sitting back on our sofa and having an uninterrupted view of the fireworks on the Hudson River was a spectacle we will never forget!
