Three of my favourites: Blog posts that caught my eye this week

I thought I’d share with you three posts that I enjoyed reading this week and you may have missed. This could turn out to be a regular feature; we’ll see how it goes.

A Gallivant in Galway, written by Paul Joyce for the Arbuturian. Paul was part of the group with whom I travelled to the Galway Arts Festival on a press trip. Apart from being excellent company, he also shared with us his hugely impressive photographic book, replete with stunning black and white images of more Hollywood A listers than you would find in Madame Tussauds.

Reading Paul’s account of Galway, it is clear his talent does not stop at photography. The dry wit with which he entertained us in person is there in spades, and his concise account of his brief experience at the Badly Drawn Boy gig does not disappoint.

Guide to Responsible Food Tourism in Rome by Katie Parla on her own Parla food blog. While Katie’s focus here is on buying and eating food in Rome, the advice she offers can be applied equally wherever we find ourselves. The five suggestions she makes are difficult to argue with and she manages to convey her own passion for choosing the right option without appearing to preach; not easy with such topics.

A sure sign of a post that strikes a chord with its readers is a healthy debate in the comments section, and there are many contributors here with a diverse range of views.

7 Reasons to be a Tourist in Your Hometown by Geraldine from Everywhereist on the Where I’ve Been blog. I selected this post because the message that Geraldine communicates is one that for me was very easy to identify with. She has a friend visiting her in Seattle and wants to show her the ‘hidden side’ of the city; those attractions that only the locals know. Her friend on the other hand has never been to Seattle before and wants to see the classic tourist sights.

In the end, Geraldine shares with us the delights of experiencing her home town through the eyes of a tourist and offers us reasons why we should do the same.

Lori, I’m sure you agree that there’s just no way of reading every post that we would like to read, I’ve seen others offer a weekly round-up of posts and it can be a good way to see others’ favourites. Glad you found it useful :-)
