I don’t think so. I have traveled a lot. The place is surrounded by gypsies and vagrants. When the sun goes down it’s quite hostile. Be careful!

I visited Lille a few weeks back – we actually drove down but having left Kent at 7am we were there by midday. It was my first visit and would thoroughly recommend it to others. Also worth checking out are some of the bars and beer shops – it’s proximity to Belgium means the beers are fantastic. Just a note – the rhinos aren’t in the zoo any more as they’ve been taken elsewhere to procreate but they are due to return at some point!

Thanks Isabelle Never made it to the Meert – was recommended to me but only read about it after we came home – next time! It sounds wonderful. But yes, I think after our ice-creams we would have passed up even a waffle…

I`ve been to Lille twice & think it`s a lovely city. Did you try something sweet at ‘The Méert’? It`s my number 5 in Top 5 of Desserts you have to try http://www.isabellestravelguide.com/pastries-and-desserts.html Or was the ice cream too big to fit anything else?
