Top 10 photos from my travels

I can spend hours flicking through our picture albums from the last few years. However good our memories might be there are moments that get lost in the mist of time and that are rekindled simply by a glance at an old photo. So while I’ve never really invested in my camera gear (it probably shows to a serious photographer) I do value the chance to capture a scene or an occasion for future viewing.

I had a dig through my albums and selected a set of 10 photos that I was particuarly happy with. They are not technically perfect in any way; in some cases these pictures have captured the moment and the place exactly as I remember it (perhaps they now form that memory); in other cases (as in the eclipse or the weird clouds, they just act as a stamp to remind me years later that I really did see those very rare events.

  7. Thank you for the nice comments.

Migrationology, I was shocked to see these after a storm a couple of years back. I gather it’s a very rare phenomenon in these parts.

Elle, the markings on the sheep – I guess it’s the farmer’s way of knowing which is which. Bit risky as it might come out in the rain though?

Mei, yes you should know these photos :-) I gave you my best ones, see?

    Thanks again to all.

  8. Amazing group of photos. I am especially impressed with the northern lights picture. They can be difficult to capture on film.

  9. That photo from the London Eye is just amazing. I’ve never made it up there (always mean to, but never actually do it!) and you’ve got me convinced that I must – soon!!! It looks like a postcard!

    Great photos all around!

Love the Amber Fort pic. It looks a lot different now – though I don’t know exactly where it was taken. The view from the London Eye at dusk is awesome!

  11. Ted, agree that the Northern Lights are a challenge. This was the second time I saw them and both times I captured them on 35mm film. Not sure if digital will be easier (I guess I won’t have to endure the nervous wait at least!)

London Eye is a great view – hope the pic encourages you guys to take the trip (Kathryn you’ve got no excuse ;-) )

Cam, not sure about the exact location. Just at the top of the hill in the large entrance yard if that makes sense? We were there in January 08.

Thanks to all for the great comments.

  14. Wow, some of the most ‘awesomestly awesome’ pics I’ve ever seen. ;-)
Seriously lovely. I especially love the fact that the St Albans one is practically on a par with the Northern Lights, and that bog just sets off the Kyrgyzstan mountains perfectly somehow!

  15. Cheers Jools. Yes, there’s precious few places were a toilet can blend seamlessly into a landscape photo – but in Kyrgyzstan anything is possible!
