Been to Amsterdam myself and a lot of what you said is true. I dunno about the the diminutive of the Dutch language though and am thankful for the info about "gezellig". My stay being too short to comprehend their language nor made an effort to study them, although other references to being "small" strike a very familiar chord, as I fell in love with their use of the "smart" car, their small cafes or what we call Al fresco dining, even the rows where the prostitutes sell their wares might be considered "small" and quirky, with a bit of "marijuana joints" thrown in .
